If you’re planning to study in Hungary for more than 90 days, securing a residence permit is essential. It grants you the legal right to live in Hungary during your studies. Non-EU/EEA students must apply for a student residence permit after obtaining a student visa.

STUDENTS VISA TYPES:

  • Student Visa (D-type): This long-term visa is for non-EU/EEA students entering Hungary for their studies. You’ll need to apply for a residence permit after your arrival.
  • Schengen Visa (C-type): If you’re attending short-term programs or summer schools (up to 90 days), this visa covers shorter stays.

Students Eligibility: You need to be accepted by a recognized Hungarian institution and provide proof of financial means, accommodation, and health insurance to apply for a student residence permit.

International workers planning to live and work in Hungary also need a residence permit. This includes various types such as the Residence Permit for Employment or the EU Blue Card for qualified professionals. Non-EU/EEA citizens will first need to secure a work visa before applying for a residence permit to live and work in Hungary.

WORKERS VISA TYPES:

  • Work Visa (Employment or Seasonal): A work visa is required for non-EU/EEA workers who have a job offer in Hungary. It’s followed by applying for a residence permit to continue your stay.
  • EU Blue Card: Designed for highly skilled professionals, this visa allows qualified non-EU nationals to live and work in Hungary for an extended period.

Workers eligibility: To qualify, you must have a confirmed job offer from a Hungarian employer and meet all required documentation, including proof of employment and accommodation.

FAQ

Foreign students need a study purpose residence permit, which is issued based on enrollment in a Hungarian higher education institution. This permit allows you to stay for the duration of your studies.

The processing time for the permit is usually 30-60 days, depending on whether all necessary documents are provided and how busy the consulate is. It is recommended to start the process at least 3 months before your planned arrival.

You generally need to apply for the residence permit at the Hungarian consulate in your home country. You will need to attend in person to submit the original documents. We assist you in preparing all necessary paperwork and guide you through the application process.

The official fee for the residence permit application is HUF 24,000, which must be transferred to the National Directorate-General for Aliens Policing. Our service fee for this type of permit is HUF 80,000 + VAT. Additionally, there may be extra costs, such as translation or notarization fees, for preparing the documentation.

If your application is denied, you can appeal the decision within 15 days. We can assist you in preparing the appeal and gathering the necessary documents.

The residence permit is usually valid for the duration of your studies, but no longer than 3 years. It must be renewed if needed. The extension application should be submitted at least 45 days before the permit expires, and we will assist you with the required paperwork.

Yes, you will need a Hungarian address, which can be a temporary apartment, dormitory, or other accommodation. This address must be provided to the authorities when submitting your application.

As a student, you can work up to 24 hours per week during the academic period and full-time during holidays. However, the residence permit is specifically for study purposes, so work opportunities are limited under this permit.

Yes, you must have health insurance to obtain the residence permit. This can be international insurance or Hungarian health insurance.

Student cards are issued by the Hungarian higher education institution where you are enrolled. You must register at the university and submit the necessary documents for the card application. We can assist with the process and help you navigate local regulations.

Any change of address must be reported to the National Directorate-General for Aliens Policing within 3 days. We assist in the process of updating your address to ensure compliance with authorities.

Unfortunately, a family reunification permit cannot be connected to a study purpose permit. Your family members can only come if they are also studying, working, or otherwise eligible for a different permit.

We monitor the status of your application through the online immigration portal and keep you informed of any important updates.

After completing your studies, you can switch to another type of residence permit, such as a job search or employment permit if you find a job. In this case, a new application must be submitted, and we will help you with the process.
